Dear Parents,

Welcome to the Lions’ class! I look forward to a wonderful year together.

You may be wondering why we are called the lions. Why not the cheetahs or the  elephants? Actually, our name has significance when we relate this animal to the Lion of Judah – Jesus. As we grow in the Lord and accept Jesus in our hearts, we become like Him. In a sense, we become little “lions”.

Did you know that the word “Judah” means “praise”? When I became the teacher of the Lions, I was very excited! I love music, and it is very important to me, especially since we have been created to praise the Lord. It only seemed reasonable to sing or listen to music, often. We do both! Our class verse is taken from Psalm 150:6 – “Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Praise the Lord.”

You may know me as the second grade art teacher or the former summer art camp director. I will not be teaching art to the second grade (Mrs. Vicki Hughes will be the primary art teacher), however art is still a passion of mine which I hope will spread to the children. I feel it is very necessary for them to cultivate ways to express themselves. It has been proven, too, that the arts can stimulate the minds of children which help them do better in school.

This year is my sixth year at Village Christian Academy, and my twelfth year of teaching in the classroom. I received a BS in Elementary Education from Xavier University in Cincinnati, Ohio. I have taught in Ohio, Kentucky, and North Carolina. My husband, Jim, and I have three children.  Therese will be a tenth-grader at Village Christian Academy, while my oldest, Andrew, is a sophomore at NC State University, and Erin, a recent graduate of VCA, will be a freshman at Grove City College.

I am fortunate to have Amy Gonzalez assisting me again this year. Amy and her husband, Eli, have two children - Paul, a fourth grader, and Adam, a kindergartner.

I feel privileged and am humbled to be your child’s teacher. God has brought us together and has a divine purpose for us. Pray for us everyday so that we may build His kingdom through Him.

Sincerely,

Eileen Slatter
