An Early Intervention Program
SEARCH & TEACH is an
early-intervention program for young children designed to identify learning
difficulties and to prevent learning failure and it’s emotional
consequences. Some children have perceptual weaknesses in visual and/or
auditory processing, or have difficulty with gross and/or fine motor
activities. These problems can cause the child to experience delays in
learning to read. Such early difficulties can lead to loss of self-esteem,
which causes the child to lose interest in school.
SEARCH & TEACH offers identification of and then direct stimulation of deficit areas early in a child’s school career so that he or she can be on the road to becoming an independent and successful learner.
SEARCH is a 20-minute screening test designed to identify students who may have difficulty acquiring the basic skills necessary for reading. Most children find the activities of the test to be interesting and fun.
All kindergarten, TK1 and 1st grade students attending Village Christian Academy are invited to participate in the SEARCH screening. There will be a $25 fee for this service. A report of the results will be completed within one week, and follow-up conferences will be scheduled with parents of students identified as being at risk for reading difficulties.
TEACH is the instructional plan personally designed for each child to help strengthen any weak areas that have been identified. The child would meet with Ms. Summers for 45 minutes two times a week for one on one instruction during school hours. Fees for the TEACH program are $25 per session, $50 per week, to be made payable to VCA on a monthly basis.

Permission for SEARCH Testing
I give permission for my child,

to participate in the SEARCH screening test offered at Village Christian Academy. I understand that I am giving permission only for the SEARCH test to be given to my child for a fee of $25. I also understand that I will receive a written report indicating how my child performed on this test. I may choose at that time whether or not to allow my child to participate in the TEACH program if it is recommended.
